Gombe to partner Bangladesh on trade, agriculture, others

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state has said the state government is ready to partner Bangladesh in order to explore and promote mutually beneficial investment and business opportunities between them.

 In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Isma’ila Uba Misilli, the Governor stated this when he received in audience the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria,  His Excellency,  Mr. Shameem Ahsan in Abuja.

Yahaya who highlighted some of the abundant resources of the state, added that Gombe is an agrarian area with vast potentials in cotton, rice and other crops with 3 dams in Dadinkowa, Cham and Balanga to support irrigation farming and other agricultural and business activities which  Bangladesh can take advantage of.

“We can collaborate with you in cotton production, especially with Bangladesh having garment/ textile industries that rely on importation of raw materials. We can also partner in rice cultivation,  processing,  milling and production.” Gov. Inuwa added.

According to the Governor, the state has a highly industrious population, saying his administration must look for ways and means through this type of engagement to explore opportunities for them to excel in their respective ventures.

 “I therefore consider this visit as a beginning of a robust relationship between our state and your country and we look forward to receiving you soon in Gombe where we’ll showcase more of our potentials and collaborative business opportunities”. Yahaya said.

Earlier, Mr Ahsan said he was at the state Governor’s Lodge in Abuja to key into Yahaya’s investment drive and explore ways of  collaboration between Gombe state and his country.

He said Bangladesh and Nigeria have a lot in common, and therefore can partner with states such as Gombe for the common good of their respective peoples.

The envoy disclosed that his country is the second largest producer of garment with a thriving economy that bursts of 7.86 per cent growth rate but with abundant unexplored potentials.

Ahsan declared the readiness of his country to partner Gombe state in a symbiotic relationship in sectors such as agriculture,  trade, education and other areas of common interests.
