Gomo of kuje tasks youths on tolerance

The Gomo of Kuje, His Royal Highness (HRH)  Alhaji Haruna Tanko Jibrin has charged youths and residents of Kuje Area Council to consciously embrace tolerance and dialogue as alternatives to violence in their quest for conflict resolution.

He said government must not, as a matter of policy, reward violence by responding to the needs of those who have caused destruction, instead of those of peace seekers.

Gomo who spoke to Blueprint in on the recently concluded elections in Kuje said the alternative to violence is tolerance.

He said tolerance does not mean agreeing with the other, or remaining indifferent in the face of injustice, but rather showing respect for the essential humanity of every person.

According to him, ignorance creates and exacerbates fears. “He said because of that, people attributes the worst intentions to others’ behaviour.”

He appealed to various party candidates in the area who contested to embrace peace and dialogue for the development of Kuje Area Council, pointing out that, politics is not a ‘do or die’ affair. “Saying, of all the contestants, only one person would be chosen by God to govern.”

Gomo warned his subjects in the traditional institution to maintain peace in their various domains, adding that, any trouble maker caught would be made to face the full weight of the law.
