Gov aspirant’s wife loses pregnancy in illegal detention

A governorship aspirant in Borno state under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Comrade Grema Terab, has called for the immediate release of his wife, Hajiya Saadatu Muhammad, arrested and detained by the police.

Terab, who made the call in an interview with newsmen in Maiduguri yesterday, said his wife was heavily pregnant at the timeof arrest, but lost her pregnancy while in police detention due to her maltreatment and careless handling by men of the Force. He said the presiding Magistrate, Justice Binta Othman, repeatedly denied her bail.

The governorship aspirant said his wife and 21 other family members were arrested after a political meeting in Maiduguri on Sunday, the 15th of April, 2018, explaining that the arrest following alleged disturbance by some miscreants who came to his premises to attack people for over one hour after a meeting between him and his political supporters. H

e said among those arrested was his wife, Hajiya Saadatu Muhammad, who, despite being heavily pregnant, was taken away by the police amidst pleas from family members present. The incident, he said, appeared to be a clear set up to smear his image by some political enemies who claim that he organised a meeting where a person was stabbed.

 

Sudan women varsity honours Gaidam

By Musa M. Buba Damaturu Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe state has been conferred with an honourary doctorate degree in law by Ahfad University for Women in Omdurman, Sudan.

The honour was given in recognition of the governor’s effort in promoting education and women education in particular and for “using lean resources to make big impact in the lives of the people of Yobe state.”

The University also noted the governor’s commitment to improving public infrastructure in the state, especially the construction of a new teaching hospital and a new college of medical sciences in Yobe State University.

Ahfad Women’s University, amongst other key interventions of the governor, also lauded his free medication policy for pregnant women and children from 0 to five years.

Gaidam has sponsored over 1400 Yobe students for various degree and post graduate degree courses in different countries of the world, including Sudan
