Gov Bello charges SIEC on transparency in LG polls



Kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has charged the newly inaugurated members of the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) to discharged their duties of organising and conducting council’s election with high level of transparency in order to achieve a free , fair and credible election.

Governor Bello gave the charge Thursday during the inauguration of members of SIEC, Hajj Commission and Judicial Service Commission at government house, in Lokoja.

The governor, who attributed the delay in conducting local government councils election to paucity of funds in the last four years, urged the appointed SIEC members to study the nation’s constitution with a view to acquaint themselves with what is expected of them to do and advised the members to come out with a suitable date of election that will be convenient to all political parties in the state.

According to him, “You are not card carrier of any political party, no body will interfere into your activities, every political party is very relevant and important in the state and as such you are expected to treat them equally and transparently.

“You should not look at any body’s face while discharging your duties, you are expected to conduct a free, fair and credible election that will be adjudged as the best in the history of the state” the governor advised.

Governor Bello, who also inaugurated Judicial Service Commission, urged the members to cooperate with relevant bodies to move judiciary forward.

Advising the members of the Hajj Commission, the governor urged them to look inward beyond hajj operations to generate revenue for the state.

He commended the commission for performing creditably in the last four years during hajj activities.
