Governing Councils appeal to COEASU, NASU, SSUCOEN to call off strike

The Committee of Chairmen of Governing Councils of Federal Colleges of Education has appealed to Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and Senior Staff Union in Colleges of Education (SSUCOEN) to call off their strike in the interest of students and the nation.

Chairman of Committee of Chairmen Governing Councils of Colleges of Education, Senator Emmanuel Anosike, who made the appeal on behalf of the Committee at the end of their South-west tour to see projects and facilities in place, said members of the committee had seen things for themselves, adding, however, that the government and TETFUND were doing everything possible to uplift the situation of the institutions’ infrastructure and capacity building.

Anosike said the visit to the various Colleges of Education in the country was to assess the situation of thing and, therefore, promised to fast-track discussions with government to find a lasting solution to the development by adding voice to that of the unions in appealing to the government to come to their aid.
He said: “I urge the unions to go back to work while discussions are ongoing, because by staying away from the classroom, the students are being deprived of quality education and they become redundant.
“Urgent steps shall be taken at this level to resolve these issues. We have visited the Federal College of Education (Special) Oyo, Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo and Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka Lagos. By this April, the committee will be touring the South East and South Colleges of Education.”
