Some residents of Abuja have blamed the high rate of unemployment on the inability of federal government and some states government to provide the enabling environment for businesses to strive and create additional jobs.
They stated this yesterday, at the grand opening of Omoneye Amala Joint at Justice Sowemimo Street, Asokoro, Abuja.
A banker, Dayo Fashina commended the Chief Executive Officer of Omoneye Amala joint, Olukayode Omoneye for the determination to start the business despite the challenges he encountered from government agencies.
Fashina said that “government is not doing enough, because in the first place for business to strive government most help provide the enabling environment. The enabling environment is not there. Like in Nigeria there is no stable power supply and there is no way you can manufacture without power”.
“The government is not really supporting entrepreneurs; you will see them talking about money from Bank of Industry (BOI) and Bank of Agriculture (BOA), on news. But for the masses to have access to that money is very difficult, it is mostly the rich people that have access to it”.
Fashina said to create more employment opportunities the government should provide enabling environment, the much needed social amenities to enable small and even big businesses to strive in Nigeria.
Another resident, Kayode Raheem also said for small businesses to grow the government most provide maximum security for investors, goods and even services in all part of the country.
According to him “the youth on their part should also enroll for vocational training. You see vocational training is still inadequate, with effective vocational training some meaningful jobs can be created. Craftsmanship should also be encouraged to enable mini businesses to spring up”.
He also said that the National Orientation Agency (NOA), should sensitise Nigerians on how, where and even the requirement needed from them to access some of the support provided by government.
He urged Nigerian youths to establish their businesses and become employers of labour, rather than job seekers that will be roaming the streets looking for the few available jobs.
