Governor Inuwa urges leaders to be committed to democracy

Gombe state Governor Alhaji Inuwa Muhammadu Yahaya has urged Nigerian leaders as well as every Nigerian citizen to show commitment in nurturing democracy, to fast track development and improve the well-being of the nation.

Governor Inuwa who made the call while speaking during the June 12 Democracy Day Celebration in Gombe, said “there was need for everyone to work hard in strengthening the democratic culture, by enthroning good governance and enriching the lives of the people.”

He promised to sustain the peaceful transition of power and the democratic gains made in the state, for its socio-economic development.

He said: “The main challenge that the Nigerian Democracy faces is how to keep the populace actively engaged in the democratic process, beyond electioneering period.

“The sustenance of democracy could be achieved with the active engagement of the ordinary citizens in meaningful discourse on issues affecting them.”
