Governor Sule appoints Justice Bashir as Nasarawa acting Chief Judge

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has appointed Hon. Justice Aisha Bashir as the first female Chief Judge of the state.

The appointment, though in acting capacity, followed the retirement of Justice Suleiman Umaru Dikko, who bowed out of the service having clocked 65 years in service.

Governor Sule, at the swearing in ceremony held at the Government House in Lafia, charged her as the new acting head of the judiciary arm of government, to be a symbol of fairness, equity, justice and objectivity which is the hallmark that civilised society yearns for at all times.

“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, you would recall that today 31st December, 2020 marked the exit of Hon. Justice Suleiman Umaru Dikko as the Chief Judge of the State following his meritorious service in the Nasarawa State judiciary.

“In fulfilment of the constitutional obligation and based on the recommendation of the Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission in compliance with the provision of section 271 (1), I approved the appointment of Justice Aisha Bashir Aliyu as the Acting Chief Judge of Nasarawa State,” he said.

According to Sule, the swearing in ceremony performed, was in line with the relevant constitutional provision aimed at ensuring sanity and stability in the judiciary as a fundamental institution of society.

“While the process for the confirmation is being pursued with the State House of Assembly, it has become necessary to swear-in the appointee, the most senior High Court Judge, to enable her perform the functions of the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State to avoid a vacuum,” the governor stated.

Governor Sule, who described the judiciary as the repository of the tenets of democracy and the rule of law, reiterated that Indeed, it is critical in the development process of every society as it provides the alloy that strengthens the relationships among the organs of government.

He congratulated the new Acting Chief Justice on her appointment, as he stated his confidence in her ability to bring her wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of the onerous task given to her.

Justice Aisha Bashir in her remark thanked the governor for the appointment and assured him of synergy with the executive arm of government.

She solicited for improvement on welfare of judiciary staff as she charged all public officials to abstain from stealing public funds.
