Gov’ship polls: Fayose, Fayemi setting Ekiti on fire – SDP

The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Ekiti state, Akinloye Ayegbusi, has accused the state Governor, Ayodele Fayose and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Kayode Fayemi of heating up the polity and causing atmosphere of confusion ahead of the July 14 elections.
The candidate said the two parties had engaged each other in a “war of attrition, raising false accusations and counter accusations, rather than telling the electorate what they have in stock for them.” Ayegbusi’s comments came against a recent allegation by the Fayemi Campaign Organisation that Fayose was conniving with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission to rig the election.
The Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate and incumbent Deputy Governor, Kolapo Olusola, and Fayemi are the leading contenders in the coming election, and thei campaigns have heightened tension across the state.
But Ayegbusi cautioned APC and PDP to stop dragging INEC into their “messy war,” and face their campaign based on issues.
He made the call as he moved his campaign across the state from ward to ward in Ekiti East local government yesterday.
He said that he threw his hat into the political ring to help “liberate the people from poverty and untold hardship occasioned by the misrule of the APC and the PDP administrations.” The SDP candidate appealed to the traditional rulers of the area to support the SDP for the much desired dividends of democracy to reach the community.
He also charged the people to think of their future and cast their votes for the SDP which had the orientation to cater for their future.
At Omuo, a crowd welcomed Mr. Ayegbusi to the town, after which the candidate moved to the palace to paid homage to the Olomuo, Oba Noah Omonigbehin.
