Govt, NGOs should complement voluntary organisations—Official

A Director with the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Ms Agnes Uta Hart, has called on the government and Non-governmental Organisations to complement the voluntary organisations’ charity work.

Hart, who is the Director, Gender Development, Social Development Secretariat, FCDA, gave the advice yesterday shortly after she bagged the Global Peace Initiatives Ambassador’s award.

The award was conferred on her by the Youth Initiative for Diversity in Nigeria (YIDIN).

She particularly solicited support for the group, adding that its activities required overwhelming support from all Nigerians.

“Voluntary organisations need a lot of support from government, individuals and the Non-governmental organisations. YIDIN particularly needs support because if you look at its programme, you will know it is grassroots oriented.

” They go straight into the interior especially to the hard-to-reach area, to impact directly on the people. Its programme and profile are very robust.

” So, they need more support like capacity building, skill acquisition and more awareness, because their work is very enormous. This is the responsibility of a government”, she said.

Earlier, the National President of YIDIN, Comrade Badamasi Sadiq Ibrahim, had said the awardee was chosen because ‘she is using her office to fight for the oppressed’.
