A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River state, Mr Chris Agara, has said that greed was the reason politicians cling unto power and impose themselves on the electorate by hook or crook, even when it is crystal clear the people do not want them.

Agara, who spoke with our reporter yesterday, expressed dissatisfaction with some politicans who, even when their services were no more needed by those who elected them in to office, would work against the popular wish of the electorate.

Advising such category of politicians to overcome the ‘temptation of perpetrating oneself in office against popular opinion,’ Agara said, “we are clamouring for devolution of power, but devolution of power is not about decentralising power from the central to the federating units but also applies to politicians, who should give up power after they have served their term.

“Greed is responsible for some of the political troubles facing the nation. Some politicians, after serving as a governor, would contest election into the Senate thereby denying others the opportunity to also serve their people. This is greed in display but I can bet you that in 2019, that would not work,” he said.

According to him, Nigerians were becoming more politically enlightened and conscious of what is happening in the polity and shall frustrate every greedy politician in 2019.

Agara also commended governor Ayade for his effort in providing jobs through political appointments which he said has ripple effect on the economy of the state.

“I am impressed with the efforts of Governor Ayade on infrastructural development and job creation under the prevailing circumstances. This is because he inherited a lot of debts.
