Group advocates service extension for NASS workers

A group, ALPHA & ROHI, has appealed to the House of Representatives Committee on Review of 1999 Constitution to consider  the extension of service years of clerk and staff of National Assembly to 40 and  65 years.

The managing partner of ALPHA and ROHI, Mr Adeola Adedipe, made the advocacy through an interview with Blueprint over the weekend in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital.

Adedipe said this could be done through the amendment of section 51 of the constitution and at the same time harmoniously designate office of the clerk to National Assembly, as head of national legislative services.

The managing partner said this would bring into harmony, section 9 of the National Assembly Service Acts 2014 and Section 51 of the constitution without any contradiction towards the development.

“Despite some challenges, the development would experience extension to 40 years for retirement age and 65 years of service for clerk of National Assembly, staff members of National Assembly Service Commission and Staff Members of National Assembly.”

He expressed optimism that  issues raised during the public hearing on the review of 1999 constitution would be critically looked into and be included in their report for the benefit of the amendment.
