Group backs removal of Adamu as APC Chair

A Pro-Democracy Group, Democracy Watch, has thrown it’s weight behind calls for the sack of Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu as Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),over what it described as “poor handling of party affairs”.

The group in a statement signed by Amb. Yusuf Yahuza and made available to journalists in Abuja on Thursday alleged that the party survived in the 2023 general elections by the whiskers considering the poor leadership style of its current Chairman, adding that replacing him remains the only option to save the soul of the party.

Recall that the APC National Vice Chairman (North West), Salihu Mohammed Lukman had in an open letter given the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu one week to commence the process of convening the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to critical issues.

Lukman in the letter threatened to take a legal action against Alhaji Adamu if he fails to comply with his demand, maintaining that the meeting should be convened to discuss critical issues affecting the party before the May 29 hand over date.

“We wish to commend Lukman for taking such a patriotic and bold step. Abdullahi Adamu as Chairman has done more harm than good to the party. He has lost touch with party leadership qualities and should honourably leave the stage now that the ovation is still loud. Under Adamu, the party which held over 80 percent of elective offices in his home state of Nasarawa has lost hold of the state except for the governorship.

“It is unpardonable that at this stage of our democratic experience, a National Chairman would toll the part of imposition of candidates amongst other inglorious actions that has only helped in diminishing the fortunes of the party”, the statement stressed.
