Group begs PDP chairmanship position for Gombe

The North-East Ambassadors has appealed to the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to concede the position of its national deputy chairman, North to Gombe state.

This was contained in a release in Gombe on Friday by the group’s publicity secretary, Alhaji Abdulhamid Sadiq.

The group said giving the state the position would go a long way in rejuvenating the party in the state and the North-east in general, noting that the absence of a single representative of the party in the National Assembly from Gombe state was regrettable.

According to the statement, Gombe state requires a rallying point that would serve as a pivot for rekindling the party in a way that would lead to its success, adding that this would return Yobe and Borno states back to the fold of the PDP family during the next elections.

“We add our voices to the call for the PDP at the national and regional levels to balance the allocation of its administrative positions amongst the states in the North-east in line with the micro zoning principle enshrined in its constitution.

“We are witnesses of how Gombe conceded the position of DNC North to Bauchi state at a time Bauchi state was ruled by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and how that became a rallying point for the party to win back the state to the PDP during the 2019 general elections.

“Now that the position is vacant and Gombe was went to the APC, we see the need for Bauchi state to graciously concede the seat of the DNC (North) to Gombe state as a way of restructuring the party for success.

“We make this appeal knowing full well that the leadership of the PDP has a listening ear to the voice of reason and has demonstrated such in the past.

“We believe it will understand the tragedy and plight of the people of Gombe state and it would come to the aid of the people of Gombe state without further delay in the interest of justice and equity by conceding the DNC, North to them and ensuring that a competent person from the state is appointed,’’ the statement said.

The group also commended the PDP for taking many Nigerians out of poverty through its ability to create opportunities for economic growth and social development between 1999 and 2015
