A Zaria-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), Save Nigeria Movement, has blamed the federal government for the continued massacre in the Northern part of the country.
A statement by the group’s secretary, Malam Bala Abdullahi, said one of the fundamental responsibilities of any government was to guarantee the safety of lives and property of its citizens.

He said “We in Save Nigeria Movement are appalled at the seeming nonchalant attitude of the federal government towards the victims and families of innocent citizens being killed almost on weekly basis, particularly in Northern part of Nigeria.
“It is rather ironically that the trend of these dastardly acts continues to rise, while the government claims that it is in control of the security situation in the country.”

The statement accused soldiers of incessant extra-judicial killing of innocent citizens in the North.
It alleged that recently soldiers invaded Keana Village in Nasarawa state where they killed over 30 Fulani herdsmen in cold blood.
According to the statement, similar attack was launched on ‘Yar-Galadima Village in Maru local government area of Zamfara state where no fewer over 100 people were massacred by those described as “unknown gunmen.”

However, the Group accused Jonathan of what it termed his “I don’t care attitude” during attack on Federal Government College and Secondary School in Konduga and Buni-Yadi, respectively, where students were killed, while he was busy gracing political rallies from one state capital to the other.
“His political schedules do not seem to allow him spare time to visit these aforementioned places to sympathise with the families of the victims of those massacres,” it added.
