Group calls for minister’s sack for opposing new Naira note

A socio-cultural group, Oduduwa Youths has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately sack the Minister of Finance, Hajia Zainab Ahmed over her disapproval of the decision by the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele to redesign the naira.

Oduduwa youths in a statement by Ade Balogun said the minister attack on the new naira, despite knowing that the CBN Governor got approval from the President shows that she wants to ruin Buhari’s agenda to save the economy.

The group insisted that the apex bank doesn’t owe the ministry any explanation because it got Presidential approval.

The statement reads, “The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed on Friday declared that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) did not carry her Ministry along in its plan to redesign and roll out new N200, N500 and N1000 notes effective December 15, announced last Wednesday.

“Is the minister suggesting that Emefiele embarked on redesign of the Naira without the President’s go ahead? CBN has the sole authority to issue legal tender currency in Nigeria. The Bank alone is able to determine the quantum of currency to release as to align with other critical objectives particularly macroeconomic stability. In a serious government, this is enough to get the Minister sacked. President Buhari should do the needful before she ruins his agenda to save the economy.”
