Group cautions on Kogi judiciary, executive face-off

A group, GYAB Movement, has appealed to the Kogi judiciary and the state government to settle their differences amicably in the interest of peace and progress in the state.

At a press conference held in Lokoja on Monday, addressed by the chairman of the group, Alhaji Ibrahim Raji, and secretary general, Comrade Onusi Abdullateef, the group said both parties have to come together in the interest of the suffering workers who have not taken salary in the last nine months.

The group noted that the joy in the whole crisis was the fact that the governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello recently stated that the said accumulated salaries of the judiciary workers was intact, and called for speedy resolution of the crisis.

“We commend the state government and the leadership of the judiciary for the maturity displayed so far. We are also appealing for  the spirit of give and take in the true spirit of collective bargaining,” the group said .

They, however, cautioned that the crisis was capable of undermining the gains recorded so far by the administration in the areas of security of lives and property, comprehensive healthcare service and all other infrastructural development going on across the state.

“The governor as the father of the state must be willing to make some sacrifice, while the leadership of the judiciary must also be ready to make some concession. We are in touch with the two groups already and we are optimistic that reasons will prevail.”
