Group cries out over hike in PMS, electricity tariff

The recent hike in petroleum pump price and electricity tariff across the country by the federal government has been condemned in many as not too good for the citizenry.

Odua Youth Coalition (OYC), in a statement signed by the national president of the group, Oluyi Akintade Tayo, described the action as insensitive to the current plight and hardship experienced by the citizenry across the country.

The group condemn the decision of the federal government to increase the pump price of PMS and electricity tariff, saying that the decision is another attempt to add to the burden of the already impoverished and marginalised Nigerians.

The group added that the nation is still battling with the neck breaking and pocket unfriendly increase in the price of basic commodities and services that are important for human existence. It noted the importance of PMS and electricity to the running of the nation’s local economy, saying  the increase will further cause a hike in the cost of production for industries producing commodities which will affect the price of commodities in the market and bring hardship to the citizenry.

In a similar vein, a community leader, Otunba Stephen Ojo, has appealed to the federal government to rescind its decision on the increased of pump price of petroleum products and electricity tariff.

He said even if such increase should come up, it should not be at this crucial period that the issue of COVID-19 has dealt badly with businesses and individuals.
