Group debunks lawmaker’s ballots box snatching allegation

By A group, under the auspices of Media Monitors For Good Governance, has debunked the allegation that a member representing Igabi Federal Constituency, Honourable Mohammed Abubakar Mamadi, and one other person were nabbed by youths in Chikun Local Government Area with stolen electoral materials at the just concluded local government bye-elections in the state.
The group’s National Coordinator, Chief Olusegun Folorunso, dismissed the allegation stressing that it was on ground as observers and lawmaker in question, was at the Kujama ward of Chikun local government in respect of the rescheduled election as instructed by his party the All Progressives Congress APC.
The group observed that since the ward and the local government fell within his senatorial zone, it could have been impossible for him to be present at both centres at the same time.
“we also make bold to say that, while Hon. Mohammed Abubakar Mamadi and his other delegated party members were trying to inquire as to where the elections will take place, they were directed to the local government secretariat for further enquiry “On their getting to the secretariat, they met a waiting gang of hoodlums who were insisting in seeing the Returning Officer of the election before they will allow the process to continue.
“As the lawmaker was about to leave the venue, an argument ensured and pandemonium broke out thereby leading to the carriage of all sorts of rumours.
“We can state categorically that the lawmaker was not manhandled nor beaten as widely reported”, the statement said.
