Group engages 300 unemployed youths into agric activities in Nasarawa

 

The Nigeria Farmers Group and Cooperative Society (NFCGS), Nasarawa state chapter, Sunday, said it has employed over 300 unemployed youth into agricultural farming, working in Ga’ate farm towards ensuring food sufficiency and to tackle youth restiveness in the state.


National Coordinator of the group Mr, Retson Tedheke, made this know while speaking with newsmen in the farm at Ga’ate, Kokona local government area of the state.

Tedheke, who is also the managing director of the farm explained that the group had cultivated 3,000 hectares of land in order to achieve food sufficiency in the country by engaging the citizens to participate in agricultural activities for the overall development of the country.


“We have over 300 people that are our staff every day working in this farm. And this has not only help Ga’ate community alone but about 10 communities and other people from other states of the federation are been employed to work here.


“As you can see, this land is 3,000 hectares of land in which we have crop production like maize, yam, rice ginger, tumeric, beneseed, melon, cowpea production. We also rear cows, sheeps, Turkey, chickens among other animals. We also have our rice called Ga’ate Gold Premium quality Rice.


He however, advised government at all levels to give adequate attention to the agricultural sector considering the importance of the sector to societal development.


Tedheke, equally called on young Nigerians to embrace farming and engage in meaningful ventures in order to become self reliant and to contribute their quota to the development of the country.
