Group faults FUOYE VC over food security remarks

A group, Independent Media Admirers of Buhari Administration, has thumbed down the vice-chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fashina, for blaming President Muhammadu Buhari for the country’s food security challenge.

The group stated this through its director-general, Otunba Olusegun Monday Folorunso, via a press statement issued Sunday by the DG.

It stated that it was unfair for the FUOYE VC, “who was basking in the euphoria of his 100 days in office last month, to use the occasion to castigate a government that appointed him to office just about five month ago.”

Otunba Folorunso, also the national coordinator of Media Monitors for Good Governance and a former director of media and publicity of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kaduna state, recalled that the media was awash two weeks ago with the news that Prof. Fashina made the statement at a well-attended ceremony in Oye Ekiti.

The statement indicated that Prof. Fashina had said the “present government of Nigeria has not been able to achieve food security status despite its human and material resources because it pays lip service to agriculture.”

“Nigeria and its leaders only pay lip service to agriculture .We only do farming with our mouths. That is why we can’t produce what we eat,” the statement indicated further that the VC had said at the event.
