A group known as Friends and Well Wishers of University of Abuja, has called on the university management to sustain the tempo of infrastructural development pioneered by incumbent Vice Chancellor, Prof Michael Adikwu.
In a statement at the weekend, the group said the strides the university had witnessed in recent times were worthy of transforming the institution from a crisis-ridden to an ivory tower worthy of emulation
Signed by chairman of the group, Dr E.O. Ejekwu, the statement noted that Adikwu’s management had changed people perception concerning the VC of the University, saying “Adikwu has succeeded in creating and stimulating a living environment for academic research, sports and arts for both staff and students in the last three years of his administration.
“We believe he will continue to fulfill the objective of the institution targeted at contributing to the wider world with its research, scholarship, teaching and learning and ensure that the university prospers as a thriving citadel of learning.
“When he was at STEP-B, he built a strong team from a very diverse and complex background; he is doing same at the University of Abuja’’, the statement added.
Ejekwu, who said he had been a longtime admirer and friend of the vice chancellor, added that Adikwu strongly believed that before the expiration of his five-year term, he would realise his vision for a reformed world class university, urging the university community to support his dreams.
Some milestone recorded since he assumed office, the group noted, include improved power supply and security on the campuses as well as increased academic partnership with a number of best universities across the globe, ensuring stable academic calendar and accreditation of most courses run by the university.
