Ahead of November 16, 2019 governorship election in Kogi state, a group under the aegis of Ihima Elites Initiative, has organised a peace campaign/seminar for the people of Ihima district in Okehi local government area.
Speaking at the peace seminar that attracted leaders and representatives of various political parties in the area Monday, the president of Ihima Elites Initiatives, Mallam Yusuf Obosi said the event was part of measures taken by the group to rebrand Ihima to a community of their heart desire, where love, unity, peaceful co-existence and progress reigns.
Obosi who lamented over the politically motivated crisis and violence witnessed in Ihima district prior to the last general elections and called on youths of the area to be more informed by keeping away from being influenced into acts that are inimical to peaceful co-existence before, during and after the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
The state commissioner for water resources, Barrister Deedat Abdulsalami commended Ihima Elites Initiative for organizing the peace seminar. He added that it has come to complement the efforts of government in the area of peace and security in the state.
Deedat who doubles as leader of APC in Okehi, pledged the commitment of his party to peace in Ihima district during the forthcoming governorship election.
In the same vein, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) led by Abdulkarim Salihu and Mallam Umar Jamiu, pledged their commitment to peace as they joined the APC leader to sign a peace pact.
