Group insists on Edo assembly inauguration

One Love Foundation has reiterated its call for the inauguration of the 7th Edo assembly.

The group, which had staged a peaceful protest Wednesday last week to demand for the immediate inauguration of the assembly, has urged the warring factions to drop their swords and allow the assembly to take off.

Founder of the group, Comrade Patrick Eholor, appealed to the state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, to set motion for the inauguration of the lawmakers-elect without further delay.

The group’s demand is coming last Monday’s botched proclamation of the assembly.

The scheduled inauguration was put off after Governor Godwin Obaseki failed to transmit proclamation letter to the clerk of the House.

Security agents were deployed to the assembly complex due to tension created by the development.

Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Communication Crusoe Osagie had during the protest said the governor was away in Abuja.

“We are gathered here today (Wednesday) for a peaceful protest to remind the Governor of Edo state that the citizens deserved better treatment.

“This is our 7th house, we are hoping that as of now, he (Obaseki) would transmit proclamation letter to the Clerk of the House so that the legislative arm can carry out the duty and functionality of democracy.

“We call on men and women today who believe in democracy, to please appeal to them so that the dividend of democracy can reach the people who voted them into power”, they said.

Eholor advised Governor Obaseki and whoever he has differences with to resolve it, because according to him, “they cannot use Edo people to settle their issues.”
