Executive Director Dispute Resolution And Development Initiative, a Non-governmental Organization, Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Yahaya has expressed the readiness of the organization on sensitizing the society to comprehend the indispensable nature of the Women folk in partisan politics.
Speaking at a one day sensitization workshop on Post-election stakeholders dialogue held in Kano , Muhammad said the workshop was primarily convened to review the outcome of the 2029 general election in relation to Women participation and engagement in politics.
According to him, a lot of water has passed under the bridge as far as mobilizing the Women folk to assert their influence and indispensability in partisan politics was concerned.
He said series of mobilization initiatives at the behest of the Disputes Resolution and Development Initiative in Conjunction with the National Democratic Institute can be said to have made considerable impact in convincing the public that the Women folk had a stake in making the nascent democratic system in the country formidable stressing that failing to succeed at the polls does not implied that they have totally lost out.
Similarlarly, Sharing her experience as a contestant during the 2019 general elections, a renowned female politician in Kano, Hajiya Zainab S. Umar attributed the dismal performance of Women in the recent elections to the firmly entrenched syndrome of God fatherism and lack of the financial wherewithal to compete.
Speaking in the same vein, a renowned Islamic Scholar in Kano, Dr. Abdulmutallab Ahamad Muhammad said there was the compelling need for mobilizing Imams across all the 44 local government areas in the state to embark on effective sensitization, for the public to understand the Islamic perspective of Women’s role in politics.
