In response to the Nigerian Army’s call on religious leaders to activate the known kinetic approach to counter-insurgency through a narrative that would counter violent ideologies, a Borno based organisation, Kalthum Foundation for Peace (KFP) has launched a new project aimed at countering violent extremism in the north-eastern state.
The Chairperson of the Foundation, Ummu Kalthum Muhammad, disclosed this while speaking with Blueprint in an interview in Gombe.
Tagged “this is the Home of Peace”, the new project is expected to create a platform for religious leaders and preachers to reach out to the community with the argument that would counter all the violent interpretations and narratives of all extremist groups trying to beguile youths in the state.
The Chairperson further said the project would link Islamic Scholars with a media platform to reach out to a larger audience.
“We have noticed a gap in the community. Some preachers truly want to counter these violent extremism narratives but logistics and platforms are constraining them. This is what we intend to solve,” Mrs Muhammad said.
KFP is a non-profitable organisation which specialises in conflict management, peacebuilding, SGBV and women empowerment in Nigeria. According to the chairperson they have been working in partnership with the British Council to provide funding and technical support to ten women-led associations in Borno state.
