Group preaches peace, co-existence in Gombe

In a bid to stem religious tensions in the state, youths in Gombe have set up a forum call Gombe Peace Project with the aim of promoting peace and understanding between the adherents of the two major religions Islam and Christianity in the State.

Yusuf Musa Danbayo stated this while speaking with our correspondent in Gombe on Sunday.

He said :“The forum intends to achieve its objective by regular interactions and collaborations with the requisite stakeholders encompassing of the security agencies, religious organisations, Religious Leaders and community leaders.

“It had its first meeting with the today with the leadership of the Gombe State Boys Brigade and the JIBWIS. In its next and subsequent meetings, the forum will invite the Christians Association of Nigeria and Jama’atul Nasarul Islam whom are to request the presence of representatives from the various associations under its umbrella; community leaders, the security agencies and other relevant stakeholders will also be invited.

“All these are aimed at fashioning out ways to promote peaceful co-existence in our beloved State.

He said the forum also visited the victims of the unrest receiving treatment at the Gombe Specialist hospital and the forum will extend to all the victims that have been affected by the unrest in one way or the other.

Danbayo said the forum would led by Ahmad Magem from Kaltungo local government area as Chairman,  Yusuf Sarki Gombe local government area as Secretary and Barbuwa J Kalla from Balanga local government area as Media Officer of the group .
