Group slams security forces for allegedly not enforcing orders

The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWGN) has called on security forces in Nigeria, especially the Nigeria Police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to enforce President Muhammadu Buhari’s orders to reduce insecurity bedeviling the country.

The group stated this while condemning a fresh attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC’s) office in a local government in Imo state.

MMWGN said the latest attack has exposed the laxity of the Nigeria Police, whereby instructions are given by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and allegedly ignored by those who were supposed to carry out the orders.

The group in a statement by its national coordinator, Mallam Ibrahim Abdullahi, Monday recalled that the IGP Alkali Baba few weeks ago gave a directive that all INEC offices across the troubled areas of South- east should be secured by the police.

It wondered what happened to that order which has made attacks of INEC buildings and facilities to be set on fire all the time. The group stated that within the last 4 months, 7 INEC buildings with their facilities have been set ablaze by criminals in five states of South-east and South-west.

The statement reads: “The Media Group challenged IGP and called on him to deal ruthlessly with any Police Commissioner, Area Commander or Divisional Police Officer that flouted his order which has continuously paved way for arsonists and other criminals to gain access to INEC facilities to commit their heinous crimes. It added that flagrant disregard to IGP orders that led to the latest crime in Imo state is not only disappointing but disgraceful and nauseating.

“MMWG said as the nation holds heads of security forces responsible for security breaches, we want IGP to take decisive disciplinary action on any further attack on INEC offices in any of the 774 local governments, state capitals and FCT responsible, otherwise security breaches would continue in this country.”
