Group sues Gombe APC over ward congress

An opposition group within the All Progressive Party in Gombe state has filed a suit at the state High Court over the May 5, 2018 ward congress in the state.
A member from Shamaki ward in Gombe local government area, Malam Sirajo Khalid and 90 other contestants, filed the case before Justice Haruna Habila Kereng of High Court 11 yesterday.
In the suit No GM/9/2018, the group sued the party, chairman of the APC ward and local government congress committee, Sulaiman Kawu Sumaila as well as the chairman of the ward and local government congresses appeal committee, Saka Abimbola Isau.
The plaintiffs are seeking a declaration that the ward congress election conducted on the 5thMay 2018 in the 114 wards in the state should be was illegal, null, void and of no effect whatsoever, as the election was done contrary to the party guidelines and constitution of the party.
The plaintiffs are also seeking an order setting aside the ward congress held on the 5th May 2018 on the ground that it is wrongful, illegal and of no effect whatsoever in that no legal ward congress was conducted.
The plaintiffs further seek an order of injunction restraining the defendants and any other persons from recognising any person purported to have been elected during the 5th May 2018 ward congress in the 114 wards in the state.
Also, they are asking the court to order and direct the defendants to conduct fresh ward congress in the 114 wards in the state and allow all interested candidates, including the plaintiffs to participate therein and that the defendants should pay the sum of N500,000 as legal fees.
