Group supports Kano new emirates

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Kano Integrity Forum (KIF) has called on the people of the state to support the state government and the newly created emirate councils for the overall social and economic development of the state.

The Chairman of the forum, Professor Abdu Salihi, made the call on Friday while addressing journalists in Kano.

He said the recent creation of the new emirates will serve the purpose of ensuring balanced development of the state especially in terms of establishing more specialised health institutions, post-secondary institutions, agricultural development services for overwhelmingly socio-enterprenueral growth, and uphold cultural and traditional heritage.

“The Kano state government is fully committed to reconstructing the state and the emirate councils considering the very glaring examples from our sister states like Jigawa, Yobe, Oyo and Bauchi states.

“Therefore,  Kano state as the most populous state in Nigeria is entitled to innovative expansion,  diversification, decentralization, or even reconstruction to enable it attain the overwhelming cultural and scientific potentiality,” he said.

According to him, the population of Kano state is skyrocketing, hence the apparent need for more emirate councils to decongest the Kano city.
