Group tasks Kogi electorate on peaceful guber election



A political group under the aegis of Ododo Consolidating Movement (OCM) has called on Kogi electorate to ensure a peaceful conduct of November 11 governorship election.

The director general of the group, Comrade Sadiq Ibrahim, who made the call  at a press conference held in Lokoja, Kogi state, Tuesday stated that the group is made up of various tribes in the state, adding that time has come for all the ethnic groups to come together for the purpose of unity in order  to move the state forward.


“Our focus is to see that all the ethnic groups unite to move Kogi forward irrespective of where they come from. We believe that having put in a place a movement that is responsive and viable; we need to come out with ideas that will unify the people of the state.


Speaking on the theme of the gathering which was ‘ Election awareness and sensitization campaign on voter’s education,’ Comrade Ibrahim noted that the group, OCM, saw the need to embark on voter education after carrying out thorough research across the three senatorial districts.


He stated that from their research, the group resolved that there was need to educate the people of Kogi state on the need to be peaceful and law-abiding before, during, and after the November governorship election.


The director general of the group stated that there will be a need to mobilise the public to participate massively in the democratic process and admonish the electorate to shun any form of electoral violence.


He called on politicians in the state to always sensitise their supporters and followers on the need to participate in the forthcoming election peacefully.


While stating that the group will also sample public opinion on their expectations, he added that the group will contact relevant security agencies to maintain law and order during the election.
