Group thumbs up Buhari, Reps on Coronavirus control measures

A coalition of civil society and youth groups Wednesday applauded President Muhammadu Buhari over the steps taken so far to checkmate the spread of Coronavirus in the country.

Convener of the group, Mallam Suleiman Musa at a press conference, in Abuja argued that the prompt response of the health ministry speaks volume of Buhari’s commitment towards ensuring the wellbeing of the citizenry.

“The opposition is saying the President should speak or address the nation on the issue. Which is more important; mobilising money and resources to tackle the challenge or paying lip service on the issue? The President did the needful and Nigerians are being sensitised accordingly,” he said.

The group faulted those who kicked against the decision by the House of Representatives to embark on a two-week recess over the infectious disease, arguing that the measure did not only fall within the power of the House to regulate their conducts but did not in any way breach the provision of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

The group applauded President Buhari over the successes recorded so far in the war against corrupt practices and socioeconomic development of the country.

It noted: “It is on incontestable record that the anti-corruption drive of Mr. President has put to a halt the several acts of brazen financial fraud which was the old order, notable convictions have been recorded and we now know it is no longer business as it hitherto was.

“The economy was rescued from the cesspit of depressive economic recession through a deft mix of policies, programs and projects that placed emphasis on non oil export and innovative exploration of the agricultural value chain. The Anchor Borrowers financial scheme also pushed our rice production to the point of self-sufficiency with other outputs also garnering forex for the nation.”
