Group to Buhari: Appoint Dabiri-Erewa foreign affairs minister

A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Eagle-eyed Hajj Monitors, has appealed to President Mahammadu Buhari to appoint the chairman/CEO Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, as minister of foreign affairs.

The group, in a statement issued in Abuja Friday by its national coordinator, Nurudeen Gasali, said her appointment would go deeper to re-jig the Nigerian embassies across the globe.

The statement read in part: “ Since her appointment as SSA to Mr. President, she has translated to reality the saying “what a man can do, a woman can do even better” by the way she has (like an Activist) been fighting the cause of distressed Nigerians in various countries; an assignment which is one of the mandates of Embassies and Ambassadors of Nigeria in such countries, a duty the Ambassador have failed woefully to accomplish thus making such Nigerians suffer unnecessarily and many losing lives in the process.

“As SSA Diaspora matters, Hon Abike Dabiri -Erewa has saved lives which ordinarily would have been lost, rescued Nigerian citizens being jailed or served capital punishments on framed up charges etc, nor to forget the recent case of two Nigerians rescued from the Hangman’s hook on drug related offence which they are innocent of where Dabiri’s contribution was also prominent.

“While we applaud Mr. President for the up-lifting of this wonderful performer, we would unlike Oliver Twist, but deservedly recommend her for appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs (Substantive or State Minister) where she would be able to have wider scope of rendering her good service to our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora, the people and government of Nigeria and by extension humanity.”
