Group to FG: Implement N10bn budget on Zamfara crisis

The Zamfara Vanguard has called on the federal government to implement the N10 billion appropriated by the Senate to mitigate the crisis that has engulfed Zamfara state in the last three years.

The group also wants the executive arm of government to implement the resolution to set up the Presidential Initiative on Zamfara State (PIZAMS) with a 10-year life span to manage the funds and subsequent allocations and donations.

The Senate in its fourth session on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 in a motion under matter of urgent public importance presented by Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa (APC Zamfara) unanimously adopted the two resolutions. It noted that the activities of bandits, cattle rustlers and kidnapping for ransom on villages and communities had remained unabated.

In support of the two decisions taken by the Senate, the Zamfara Vanguard, in a statement signed by its coordinator, Haliru Musa, said resolving the crisis in the state required urgent financial intervention in view of the humanitarian crisis it had thrown up.

He said any further delay in rendering all forms of assistance to victims, including thousands of widows and orphans, would further worsen the suffering currently being experienced as many had been displaced.

Musa commended the Senate for the latest move on the crisis in the state and urged the executive arm to complement the effort by releasing funds and setting up the ad-hoc committee so that it could commence work without further delay.
