Coalition of Civil Society groups for Justice and Equity (Coalition-JE) has demanded for the immediate unsealing of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) by the Inspector General of Police, Malam Idris Ibrahim.
Addressing the press in Abuja, on behalf of others, the convener, Mr Edime Amade, said the federal government should set up an independent executive committee to thoroughly investigate and unravel the truth behind the allegations raised against IGP Idris by Senator Misau.
He said the continuous occupation of the office no longer serves the best interest of the poor masses and the New Nigeria which is anchored on integrity, transparency and discipline.
Adding that the activities of the police force on Peace Corp is inconsistent with the vision and dream of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said the denial by the police force that it has seal the office was unfounded, saying the sealing of the building was carried out under the supervision the administrative officer of the police criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID), DSP Abdullahi Abubakar.
“Till date, the building is under luck and keys with heavy presence of armed policemen. DSP Abubakar is still in possession of the keys thereby denying access to the building for about nine months now. To legalise their acts of illegality, the police has filed a motion on notice dated 3rd October, 2017 seeking to seal the building which they had already sealed since 28th February, 2017,” he claimed.
The group therefore gave the IGP five days ultimatum saying it is ready to mobilise it members in large number for mass protest until the attention of the international community is drawn to it quest for the enthronement of the true tenets of justice.
“It is worrisome to note that the current leadership of the force can levy allegations against any person or group of persons just for the purpose of intimidation and harassment while at the same time lying under oath to sustain their frivolous and unwarranted allegations,” he said.
