Groups campaign for peaceful elections in kogi central

A coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from Kogi Central, has called on the state government to provide a peaceful atmosphere in the build up to the election so as to arrest any form of violence in the state.

The groups made the call at a roundtable briefing for peaceful co-existence before and after 2019 general elections themed: “Sustaining Peace in Kogi Central a Necessity for All,” on Thursday, in Abuja.

They advised all political parties, candidates and their agents and all stakeholders to avoid any form of violence by observing the exercise appropriately and not to be seen announcing election results ahead of INEC as it is capable of bringing in crisis while calling on Ebira sons to unite and work together.

“Sons and daughters of Ebira must as a matter of necessity unite and work together for the peace and development of our land,” they said.

Speaking on behalf of the collaborating CSOs, the President General of the Ebira’s People’s Association Dr Abdulrahman Adeiza said experience of electoral violence from the past in the land had not only brought backwardness but has created hatred among the people

He enjoined governments at the state and local government levels ditto traditional, political and opinion leaders to ensure adequate security and regular monitoring of the elections for peaceful coexistence

Speaking, Member, Association of Ebira’s Professionals/Proudly Ebira Dr. Juliet Hussaina Muoneme said the group has put in place series of activities in place to achieve a positive result to have a violent-free election.

According to Muoneme, “We have been carrying out series of events to see that we have a peaceful and secured election. We wish to have our youths that are used for violence to be re-oriented in order to encourage a secured state during the election and beyond because this will serve as opportunities for them to receive such lectures eradicating the long stagnated ignorance which would surely bring about a great turnaround.”

The coalision includes Ebira Peoples Association (EPA), Association of Ebira Professionals (AEP), Proudly Anebira Forum (PA), and Ebira Youth Congress (EYC).
