GSS Ilorin Old Boys award scholarships to 3 students

The 1999 set of the Government Secondary School (GSS), Ilorin, Kwara state, yesterday presented scholarships and certificates of excellence to selected three students of the college.
The beneficiaries included Ajibola Muiz, Abdulmalik A. Shaaba and Akanbi Basit Ayomide all in Senior Secondary School class.
Presenting the certificates to the benefitting students, the leader of the 1999 set, Bello Abdullateef, explained that the gesture was to appreciate the various contributions the school has impacted in their lives.
“We graduated from this school 18 years ago; we all appreciate the efforts of the school, particularly the teachers for providing us with quality education and good moral values. What we are doing today is to pay back to the school that produced us,” he said.
According to him, the scholarship will cover the payment of the students’ 2018 West African Examination Council (WAEC).
Responding, the Principal of the school, Alhaji Salman Zakariyau Apo, who commended the old students for their contribution towards promoting academic excellence among students, described old students as the school’s backbone.
He said “when the news of the scholarship got to us, we were all very happy and excited because we believe this singular act would go a long way in motivating the students and as well improving the academic standards of the school.”
“We equally appeal to the public to assist us on our roads, and also in the areas of sporting equipments and facilities that would assist our students to do more in the aspect of sports and other extra curricula activities.”
He added that “there is always the need for private partnership in education if we want to achieve the desire goal for the sector because government can’t do it alone.”
The principal, however, commended the state government for creating the enabling environment and providing the necessary support in the education sector.
