Guard against personality cult, Danbilki tells Buhari

Chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano and a staunch political associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Abdulmajid Danbilki Commander Thursday called on the president to guard against the creation of a a questionable personality cult as such could smear the good reputation of his government.

“What we want from the president is to have a re-think on who should be nominated as ministers in his cabinet to avoid dragging the good reputation of his government in the mud. This time around, people’s expectations are high because they want the Augean stable to be cleaned and forming a questionable personality cult would be a recipe for backwardness”.

Speaking to newsmen in Kano, Commander said creating a new cabinet on the basis of credibility, integrity and untainted pedigree would stabilise the polity to an appreciable extent and that the issue of scrutinising and ascertaining one’s credibility is what is most needed in forming a coherent and credible cabinet. He affirmed that creating a bad personality cult engenders corruption in high places.

“People of questionable character in government, would only tarnish the image of such a government. What Nigerians want now are credible people at the helm of affairs and not ones with egocentric ambition who would want to make the system rotten for their own selfish interest. We have passed such a stage and entered a new dawn.

“Look at the way the wife of the president, Hajiya Aisha Buhari was furious about how the N500 billion social intervention fund was handled. She was deeply worried and she expressed her utter displeasure over the manner those who were supposed to be given the social intervention fund were skipped. To me, it was an act of corruption that should be probed.

“We are confident that the president would inject a new lease of life in his government by working side by side with those who have the interest of the nation at heart. Corruption is what destroyed the body fabric of the nation in recent years.

“At the time when we gained independence from the colonial masters, our governments in various regions were in good shape,” he stated.

While calling on Nigerians to support President Buhari to ensure his success, in the next four years, the APC chieftain stressed that without cohesion and sincerity of purpose, the objective would hit a brick wall.
