Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Children’s Welfare has rescued a 13-year-old girl (name withheld) who was allegedly impregnated by her guardian, Sunday Muoghalu.
The girl, according to the Publicity Secretary of the ministry, Miss Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, who was recently delivered of the baby, was put in a family way at their place of residence at Agu-Oye Umudioka in Awka, Awka South Local Government Area.
The baby, who is currently in a safe place provided by the ministry, was rescued after the Commissioner, Mrs Ify Obinabo,the told got news of the teenage’s delivery on social media at the weekend and swung into action immediately, thereby leading to arrest of the suspect as well.
“When the girl was interviewed, she said she is from Akwa Ibom, while her biological parents stay in Agulu, Anaocha LGA of Anambra State. She said Mr Sunday’s wife is known as Madam Ghana, and that the act started when Madam Ghana travelled to the village. She confessed that she was not the only one involved.
“There is another girl who is seven years old, Mr Sunday used to sleep with her too. She once told Madam Ghana about it, and she cautioned her husband, but when it continued, I could not do much any longer. Meanwhile, Sunday Muoghalu, who resides at Agu-Oye Umudioka, Awka has confessed to the crime.
“He says he is responsible for putting a 13 year – old girl in the family way. The 75 year – old suspect stated this in an interview in Awka when he was asked the reason behind such action. In his defense he said that he was only playing with the young girl and never intended to impregnate her,” she added.
