Gubernatorial, NASS polls: 13 registered political parties sign peace accord in Yobe

Registered political parties in Yobe have pledged to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the forth coming  general elections scheduled for February and March, 2019 respectively.

This was disclosed on Thursday after the signing of Peace Accord at the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC office in Damaturu.

13 registered political parties signed the peace accord for the governorship election while 11 signed for the senate.

The running mate for All Progressives Congress APC gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana expresses satisfaction with the success of the processes so far.

“We thanked the INEC and the security agencies for organizing this peace accord for the successful conduct of 2019 elections” he said.

He promised his party will peacefully conduct its self for the success of the election and for the development of Yobe state.

In a separate interview, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Ahmad Makama expressed satisfaction with the attendance saying almost all the representatives of the political parties were present at the signing.

He further drew the attention of the gathering on the unclaimed PVCs which can now be obtained at ward levels up to Monday 21st January 2019 while the final day for the collection of PVCs at INEC offices is February 8, 2019.

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam who was contesting for the seat of a Senator was represented at the occasion by his Deputy, Abubakar D. Aliyu.

Some of the accords signed includes, shunning away religious and ethnic campaigning, destruction of bill boards, hate speeches that can lead to violence before, during or after elections, provocative utterances among others.

The occasion was witnessed by political parties, the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sumonu Abdulmaliki and other securities agencies in the state who charged them to respect law, saying there is

nothing good like peaceful co-existence.
