Gulak: Stop killing innocent people, Rep urges security forces

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Uchenna Eke, Thursday called on security forces operating in response to the killing of political aide to former President Goodluck Jonthan, Ahmed Gulak, to stop killing innocent citizens in the area where the incident took place.

The lawmaker representing Abor Mbaise/Ngor Okpala federal constituency of Imo state Thursday in Abuja stated that invasion of host communities to the airport in the state by security personnel has forced the people into bushes, where they now live in fear.

He said there have been reported deaths, destruction, looting of shops and other property.
He gave the names of some victims as Noel Chigbu Nzeribe, Tochi Ekwe and many others who were reportedly missing, asking the Nigerian Army to within 14 days, respond to a petition before it on the reported murder of Nzeribe by its personnel.
While condemning Gulak’s brutal murder in totality, the lawmaker however lamented that playing host to an airport to which the former presidential aide was heading doesn’t make his people the criminals behind the act.

He appealed to security agencies to fish out the real criminals, and stop killing innocent people.
“We lost a young man, who until his death owns and operates a Shawarma shop just to make ends meet. He was hit by the army because he could not obey the rules at the checkpoint. The family has written a petition to the army. We as the people of Ngor Okpala/Mbaise are not happy about it and as the representative of the people, I want to make it known to the world that we are waiting for the outcome of the petition.

“As the representative of the people, I am giving the army 14 days to respond to the killing of that young man who left a pregnant wife and his two children. One is 3 and the other is 2- year- old”, he said.

He added that the statement credited to the police that murderers of Gulak were killed in a gun battle, and what Governor Hope Uzodinma said was politically motivated were rather contradictory, and the more reason why a discreet investigation into the matter must be carried out.

“If the police said some of the killers have been killed, and others arrested, why is the military still haunting my people?” he asked.
