Gunmen abduct medical doctor in Ekiti

Ekiti state residents are becoming very apprehensive at the increasing spate of kidnap cases in recent times as a medical doctor, Dr. Adekunle Abayomi, was kidnapped by gunmen in Ido-Ekiti, yesterday.
The Medical Doctor became the fourth kidnapped victim to be recorded in the State within the last two months.
The latest victim, Abayomi, was said to have been snatched while travelling between Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, and Ido-Ekiti, in Ido-Osi local government area of the state.

Sources said Abayomi abandoned his former base in Yola, in Adamawa state, as a result of high rate of insurgency to secure appointment at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) Ado-Ekiti.

It was gathered that the young doctor had just collected his employment letter when the kidnappers struck.
A colleague in the Ekiti state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), who confirmed the kidnapping, said the captors of Abayomi were demanding a N1million ransom for him to be released.

The NMA hinted that the association was making all efforts to ensure that the ransom being demanded by the kidnappers was paid as soon as possible.
Also confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer, (PRO) of the State University Teaching Hospital where the victim had just secured appointment, Mr. Muyiwa Olomu, said the management of the hospital was disturbed by the incident.
As at the time of filling these reports, sources within the NMA said the Honda Civic car, in which Abayomi drove before he was kidnapped had been found where it was abandoned by his captors.

Meanwhile, the state police command, through its Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Mr. Victor Babayemi who also confirmed the incidents has vowed to unravel the mystery behind the kidnappings and the perpetrators, saying the long arm of the law would soon catch up with all those involved in the dastardly act.
