Gunmen abduct Ondo monarch, 3 others

A traditional ruler of Iku Quarters in Ikare, Akoko North-east area of Ondo state, the Onilu of Iku, High Chief Mukaila Bello, and three other indigenes of the town were kidnapped late Thursday by gunmen.

Blueprint gathered that they were abducted at Ago Panu axis of Owo-Ikare road while on their way from Akure to Ikare Akoko.

Others abducted were Yeye Gbafinro, a chief in Ikare town; Hon. Adeniran Adeyemo, a former member of the House of Assembly and APC chieftain, and Bashiru Adekile, while the driver of the vehicle was wounded and receiving treatment at undisclosed hospital in the area.

A statement from the Ondo state Police Command via its PPRO, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the incident, saying, “The Police received a distress call at about half past six in the evening of Thursday, 4th of August that gunmen shot at one Toyota Corolla car on Akure -Ikare while on motion.”

“The bullet reportedly hit the driver on the head forcing the vehicle to stop and the four occupants taken away into the bush while the driver was abandoned.”

Meanwhile, the Police have swung into action with local hunters and vigilantes to rescue the victims and arrest the assailants.
