Gunmen hijack passenger bus, abduct policeman in Edo


There was confusion Wednesday in Ubiaja, headquarters of Esan South-east local government area of Edo State after gunmen suspected to be kidnappers whisked away police officer simply identified as DSP Goodwin and held four others hostage.

The ugly development is coming  two weeks after armed men attacked the divisional police headquarters in Afuze, Owan East local government area of the State and killed the DPO and three other policemen.

Wednesday’s incident reportedly occurred when the gunmen forced the vehicle the policeman was traveling in to stop.

Blueprint gathered that the gunmen who were on the road for apparent random kidnapping took the policeman and four other passengers into the bush, afterward.

The officer was said to be traveling to Asaba, the Delta State capital when the gunmen struck.

It could not however be ascertained whether the policeman was in uniform.

The state Police spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the development, said the command had directed the police tactical team in Ubiaja division to hunt for the gunmen.

According to him, “Good news would soon emerge from the tactical team work in the forest”.
