Gunmen invade Zamfara community, kill Policeman; kidnap district head, son

Scores of suspected kidnappers numbering over 50 besieged Thursday Gayari district in Gummi local government council of Zamfara state, and killed police officer.

The fierce-looking men later kidnapped the district head of Gayari Alhaji Hassan Muhammad and his son.

A resident of the area identified as Muhammadu Ibrahim Gayari in an interview with Blueprint via telephone conversation said,
“They came to our town numbering over 50 by Motorcycles at around 11:30pm on Thursday and attacked the Police outpost and killed one Police officer attached to the outpost and began shooting sporadically on the air.

They went straight to the house of our district head Alhaji Hassan Muhammad and abducted him and his son.”

He said the hoodlums came from the neighboring border of Niger state forest to attack communities in the area.

When contacted, the state police command public relations Officer, SP Muhammad Shehu confirmed the incident.

He said already a tactical team of mobile Police special operatives have been deployed to the area to restore peace and rescue the district head who were still held captive by kidnappers.

On the alleged attack on police outpost in the area, the police image maker denied the attack.

He said, “As I’m talking to you, we communicated the Divisional Police Officer in Gummi and he confirmed to me that there was no such attack in Gayari Police outpost.”
