Gunmen kidnap ex-UI DVC, demand N50m ransom 

A former a former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) of the University of Ibadan, Professor Adigun Agbaje, has been kidnapped by armed gunmen along the Lagos – Ibadan expressway.

It was reliably learnt that the kidnappers are now demanding N50 million ransom from his family to secure his release.

Profesor Agbaje said to be on sabbatical at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, in Ogun state, was reported to be on his way to Ibadan at about 6pm Friday when kidnappers blocked his vehicle along the Dominion University end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Ibadan axis of the expressway.

The kidnappers were said to have since contacted Professor Agbaje’s family to demand a N50million ransom.

However, Oyo state Police command in a statement weekend confirmed that there was a case of abduction of a yet to be identified person on Friday along the Dominion University end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

“On Friday 28/10/2022 at about 1835HRS, operatives of the command attached to Toll-Gate Division received information about sporadic gunshots heard along the Dominion University end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. In swift response to the above, the Divisional Police Officer led a team comprising; Anti-crime patrol operatives, tactical teams, Police mobile men and local hunters for immediate rescue and further intervention,” the statement reads in part.

It added that, ” During the process of prevailing and preventing further chaos from what was evidently an abduction scenario, an officer attached to the command paid the supreme price with one other badly injured and presently responding to treatment.”

The command in the statement signed by its Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adewale Osifeso stated further, “so far, expended ammunition shells and four abandoned vehicles were retrieved at the scene.”
