Gunmen kill 10 in Jigawa, Niger

Over 200 persons, believed to be insurgents, attacked and killed at least eight in Gwaram local government area of Jigawa state, on Tuesday night.
Briefing newshounds on the incident, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the zone comprising Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, Alhaji Mohammed Tambari Yabo, said four mobile policemen, three conventional policemen and one civilian guard were killed during the operation which lasted for several hours.

According to him, “the terrorists used explosives to blast the police station and the Shariah Court in Gwaram.”
He said the insurgents, numbering over 200, came on motorcycles and other vehicles, saying that they might have come from neighbouring Bauchi state.
Yabo said they abandoned some of their motorcycles presumably due to fuel problem, adding that in the process they stole one vehicle from the local government secretariat.

Similarly, unknown gunmen yesterday killed two persons in Shadna village of Bosso local government of Niger state.
Three other persons reportedly sustained bullet injuries in the invasion of the village by the gunmen at about 11pm.
Blueprint learnt that the unidentified gun men numbering three invaded the village in a motorcycle during a monthly traditional dance event.

It was learnt that gathered that they started shooting sporadically into the air and that stray bullet hit two of the villagers leading to their instant death and causing serious injuries to three other person
The injured persons were rushed to those undisclosed hospital, while the dead have been buried.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Richard Adamu Oguche, confirmed the report, saying that the Command had intensified its patrol to forestall any further attack on the community.
He called on the members of the community to remain calm and assist the police with useful information on any strange movement in their area for prompt action.
