Gunmen kill 2 soldiers, 6 policemen in Enugu, Ebonyi attacks

Gunmen reportedly attacked Army checkpoint at Idodo community in Nkanu East local government area of Enugu state and killed two soldiers.



The daredevil hoodlums also killed three police officers on the Ebonyi – Enugu state border.



It was gathered that the rampaging gunmen stormed the checkpoint and started shooting which resulted in the death of two soldiers.


It was also reported that the hoodlums who operated in Sienna buses stormed the checkpoint late Saturday evening, 28 January, 2023.

However, at the time of filling this report, the Enugu state police command was yet to react to the incident as the police spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, did not pick his calls.

In a related development, three police officers have been reportedly killed by gunmen at the border checkpoint along Enugu/Abakaliki expressway.

Gunmen on Saturday evening who were said to have operated in a Sienna bus were said to have attacked the checkpoint, opened fire on the policemen on duty.

Another policeman, who was said to have been shot on the leg is said to be receiving treatment at a hospital in the Ebonyi state Capital.



The report said the gunmen operated from Enugu, killed two soldiers before approaching Ebonyi

Confirming the report, police spokesperson in Ebonyi, Chris Anyanwu, said: “ “Yesterday’s attack by unknown gunmen at Ebonyi/Enugu boundary took place at about 1808hrs. Three Police personnel of Operation Safer Highway, who were fatally injured, were later confirmed dead. Hoodlums operated in two sienna vehicles, drove into the check-point, and opened fire on the policemen,” he said.
