Gunmen manhandle, rob NTA reporter, others

A reporter with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Gusau, Malam Anas Sani Anka, was manhandled by men suspected to be armed robbers on Zaria-Funtua highway.

Anka told journalists that the robbers, dressed in military uniforms, forcefully stopped the vehicle he boarded few kilometres to Giwa town, headquarters of Giwa local government area in Kaduna state at around 11 pm on Sunday.

He said the robbers flashed torch lights and the driver thought it was another military road block, but immediately the car stopped, they started hitting the Golf car and ordering the passengers out of the car.

“When I realised they were not military boys but armed robbers, I locked the front door where a lecturer from the College of Agriculture, Zuru, Mr A. Girma, and I were seated, but they smashed the windscreen with a sharp cutlass.”

“One of them slapped my face and asked why I locked the door, and I told him it had been locked right from Kaduna where we boarded the vehicle, but he disagreed and slapped me again; another ordered that I be shot.”

He added that after collecting monies and all other valuables, including 13 handsets, they instructed them to lie down and started shooting in the air.

He added: “None of us was killed or injured, but I lost my two handsets, N32, 000, as well as my ATM and official Identity cards, while the lecturer lost his two GSM phones, official documents and N300,000 and his ATM cards.”
