The main Committee of Imam Malik Juma’at Mosque Damba area in Gusau, the Zamfara state capital, has inaugurated a 10-man committee for Feeding in the Mosque during the month of Ramadan.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Chairman of the Committee who doubles as the Dean, Student Affairs at the Federal University, Gusau, Prof. Muhammad Lawal Mayanchi, in Gusau yesterday.
According to the statement, the committee’s terms of reference are to organise and coordinate Iftar feeding during Ramadan fast to the less privileged in the mosque.
Members of the Committee are Prof. Muhammad Lawal Mayanchi (chairman); Dr. Kabir Muhammad (secretary); a former Zamfara NUJ chairman, Malam Suleiman Haidara, will serve as vice-chairman, with other seven dignitaries as members.
The statement further stated that “to ensure sustainability of the programme, the committee stated that adequate arrangements have been put in place to continue raising funds for next year Ramadan feeding to the less privileged.”
It added that the Committee had proposed to extend its activities aimed at alleviating the suffering of orphans and the less privileged, adding that the committee had purchased a deep freezer.
Other activities of the Committee included the payment of students’ registration fees (orphans), purchase of sewing machines for the families of orphans and widows and provide other financial assistance, particularly hospital bills to orphans among others.
The committee enjoined wealthy individuals in the area to assist the Committee in its efforts aimed at reducing hardships among the people.
